Lovely Wednesdays: Looking Forward

I spent last week in Taos, New Mexico ringing in the new year, skiing, relaxing & working on my twenty-fourteen resolutions. We hit up all of our favorite restaurants, bars & ski runs. We even added a serene spa day to the schedule. This laid back New Mexico town has to be one of my favorite places to travel. Although I'm not an avid skier, I love the mountains; winter & summer both. 

On our drive in, we decided to go a little out of the way so we could stop in Santa Fe for a few hours. We walked around the brightly, light square filled with colorful Christmas lights & a giant Christmas tree in the center. We escaped the cold & the crowd in the Hotel St. Francis. We casually browsed over the cocktail menu in the Secreto Lounge & landed on their award winning, Spicy Secreto. Most cocktails are usually a "love it" or a "hate it" for me, & this spicy cocktail is now one of my all-time favorites. 

I loved it so much, I made one for myself last Saturday as a last hoorah before I started my New Years cleanse. If you're looking for a delicious cocktail recipe to sip on, you have to try the Spicey Secreto. They don't call it award winning for nothing! 

Spicy Secreto:

1 1/2 ounces Cabana Cachaca {rum}
3/4 ounce St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
1 jalapeño slice {without seeds}
2 cucumber slices
2 ounces fresh sour mix {2 parts simple syrup, 2 parts lemon juice & 1 part lime juice}
New Mexican red chile rim

Muddle jalapeño, cucumber & 1 ounce fresh sour mix. Rim a tall glass with red chile {I used salt but prefer red chile} & then add the rest of the liquid ingredients. Shake & double strain over ice. 

If you're making your own simple syrup, I recommend making it at least a few hours before you want your cocktails to be served. Let it sit & thicken in the fridge.
